Millennium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were adopted by the United Nations in 2000. They consist of eight goals and 17 subgoals covering topics such as education, child health, disease, gender equity, environmental sustainability, and international economic relations. Many of the goals contain numerical targets to be achieved by 2015. The UN identified 48 indicators of development to help monitor progress on the goals. The indicators identified by the UN help illustrate the current status of progress on the MDGs, but we have also listed additional indicators that give a broader view of development.
