Aggregate Indices
An aggregate index combines two or more individual indicators into a single index. For example, the Human Development Index combines indicators of health, wealth, and knowledge. Construction of such an index requires a system to weight the individual components. Listed here are existing aggregate indices of human development organized by broad thematic category. Note that country-coverage varies by index. Click on an indicator to see a more detailed description and the values for individual nations. The tools below allow you to compare indices across nations.

There are three ways to explore this section of the website. You can click on the name of an index below to see: (1) a description of the method used to construct the index; (2) the source for the index; (3) the year the index was published; (4) the number of countries covered by the index; and (5) the values of the index for each country. To examine multiple indices at once, select the "CREATE TABLE" button. To graphically compare a single index across a number of countries, select the "CREATE GRAPH" button.

These data correspond to the most recent years available.
